Hypnosis is not:
* Sleep - Some people think Hypnosis is being Unconscious when in fact your aware of everything that is going on at all times, some forget part of the experience after the fact but the reality is that at any point, if suggested something that they do not what to happy by Dany Leblanc C.H.en would be suggested they would simply reject the suggestion, emerge from hypnosis if the suggestions in negative to them! That right all of this because its the opposite of sleep, it is a extremely focused state of attention and awareness.
The opposite of sleep really except for the relaxation, that is one of the only thing that is similar to sleep and the one thing that we can easily observe when looking at the subject, this is in fact why early on even the fathers of Hypnosis thought it was sleep hence the term "Hypno" Greek for sleep. Their was later efforts to rename Hypnosis but the term was already widely used.
* Dangerous - Hypnosis is in no way dangerous onto itself, however the context might be...Imagine being hypnotized when driving? An other area to look out for is obviously when to use it and when not too...for example if a friend that learned about hypnosis from lets say a book or a video or something and that he would suggest that you no longer have that headache that you have been having...now what if the pain was from a tumor and that by no longer feeling pain you would not seek medical attention? That is why uncertified hypnotist should not deal with such issues as pain management and that you get a medical diagnosis before going to a hypnotist as we will just refuse as we are not doctors and will not practice medicine without a license. Just make sure that the Hypnotist that you choose is a member in good standing of the NGH (National Guild of Hypnotist) the biggest Hypnotist association in the world. As we are trained to keep you safe while hypnotized and we use all the necessary safety consideration. But Being Hypnotized onto itself is in no way dangerous.
* Loss of self-control - If anything you will have more control than anything as hypnosis is not a lost of control but rather more focused control. It is all about being guided into hypnosis you actually self-hypnotized yourself by following instructions to enter this calm and relaxing state. You just allow yourself to follow instructions of the hypnotist as you know it will help you. In the case of stage hypnotist you give the hypnotist even more control because it is expected, keep in mind they are all going to the stage of their own accord some even run to the stage, given this knowledge and the knowledge that you cannot be hypnotized against your will can you see how ready the guy that runs to the stage is?
* Being weak-minded - Common thing people say, I call it the Star Wars mentality as people compare it to that scene in the movie where a Jedi imposes his will on some people and then claim it only works on week minded people...Hypnosis is the opposite as the smarter people can focus and concentrate better so weak minded people are harder to hypnotize. If you can read this and want to be hypnotized I can hypnotize you. Given the fact that weak minded people are harder to hypnotize I would say that if Jedi would learn hypnosis they could use those trick on everyone!
* A state of unconsciousness - As I already talked about Hypnosis being a state of directed attention, of extreme focus to voice or suggestions of the Hypnotist so it is in fact the perfect opposite of unconsciousness. Hypnosis is in fact a state of Super awareness.
* Being controlled by someone - I think that by now you already dispelled this one but lets give it a go anyway...I never accepted anyone who came to me because his wife wants him to quit smoking or something like that...am I being a human rights advocate here? Of course not although I do respect his choice to smoke I would want to see him quit and life long as much as his wife wants him to, trust me! Its simply because hypnosis in not a form of control but rather using your sub-conscious mind to help you achieve goals your willing to achieve. As you have full control over the suggestions that you accept or reject. Take for example your self, have you ever been hypnotized, don't bother saying no the answer is...yes, you are in a reading trance now like every time you've ever read something! Thats right can I control you? No but I could tell you about things that you have no opinion on and you may take that knowledge to the bank and incorporate it into your belief system although I might have been telling lies (I am not!). So this is only one example of daily trances we get into, now look at television, you space out into this world of fantasy then stop paying attention when there is a commercial break...perhaps focusing your conscious on something else while the ads a talking to you in the background bypassing the critical mind and implanting cravings for foods and products into your mind! This is why I mute the television during the commercial breaks, because ads are subliminal enough as it is for me not to have to help it slip in cause I'm in a commercial break distracted type trance!
